First: the best wishes for the new year.
This is Albina's book, the one that got lost between the Netherlands and Russia. I had a spare empty book and redid the 2nd and 3rd drawing, the one from Thalia (flowers) and my own (Jonas and the whale). I will send it to Anastasyia early next week.

Thalia's Dream moly - Ellen's entry
Thalia's DREAMS moly is on the move again! I should have this on its way to EmonXie on monday.
Dreams are funny aren't they? They take us to the most absurd places, they play with reality, they wake us up and sometimes make us wish that we'd just stay asleep dreaming lovely dreams. I've twice awoken laughing out loud from silly dreams that were just so comical. THAT is an awesome way to wake up, I wish it happened more often.
Lately, my dreams have been confusing. Not necessarily bad but just strange and unsettling. So, I've put a confusing dream into Thalia's moly.

Thalia.
I have had contact with Thalia, and she asked me tell you that for very personal reasons she can't continue with this group. I already contacted Albina about it.
Thalia will send the 2 books in her posession to me; I will continue of course.
I have one request: I would appreciate if we all cooperate to finish Thalia's moly as planned. I can assure you it will mean a lot to her and help her through some difficult times.

some of the few things I like about Vancouver
my entry into Rene's wonderful Moly. Also my second outing with the ink pencils Rene recommended a while back, fun!
Hope y'all enjoy, and deepest apologies for the slow delivery pace, this past couple months has been unusually busy & distracting for me between travel, family stuff, and getting a new gig lined up. Getting back on track now, noice!

Is moly 58 still alive?
I was wondering, is this exchange still alive?
Since August 13th there were only three updates, 2 of which were mine.
I mean, Ellen took 6 months to finish her last moly, and I have no objection if it happens as exception.
But now Thalia has 2 books, one 6 months, one 3 months in posession.
Scoach has not had a book since May.
Most other molys are at location for about 2 months. Maybe they are almost finished, maybe they are forgotten. I don't know.
I promised to redo the book that got lost (Albina's), but if there is no interest anymore I won't bother.
I don't want to push, but I don't want to let this Moly-idea (that I still believe in) slip away. Could you guys give an update?

Raven and the fox
Here is Ian's book: creatures of imagination. I took the story of the the raven and the fox. But I gave it a 21st century twist. Never try to flatter too much.
http://renefijten.blogspot.com/
Ian, a tip for you: I made this drawing with Derwent Inktense pencils. They are like aquarel pencils, but when brushed with water it becomes ink with a nice intense colour. It is waterproof after drying, and the drawn lines stay visible. It worked really well for me. Unfortunately they are not available everywhere, I found them in an art supplies shop in London.

Rene's Moly - on and on around the world
sooooooooooooooooooo. Inspiration came hard for me on this one. Something local, something I love.....I was stumped. I mean, ideas did pop into my head but nothing stuck, nothing made me want to jump into the book and go for it. Time passed. Passed some more.
Then I went back home to southern Oregon to attend my sister's wedding. No, I am not from North Dakota :-) Nearly everyday I visited Harris Beach. Its an easy place to go. Beautiful. Spent loads of time there during my childhood. Body surfing under my Grandma Hoagland's watchful eyes. I surfed there with my friends as a teenager. I played in the surf at the ripe old age of 39 this summer. I even worked for the State Park Station there one summer. I haven't a clue how much time I've spent there...and I return there EVERY time I go home. I know that Rene wanted us to avoid "touristy" places but this is not a touristy place for me. It is a sanctuary for me. Its a place to laugh, a place to play, a place to be quiet, a place to breathe....to me.
If any of you find yourselves cruising down Highway 101 in southern Oregon, stop by Harris Beach. You will NOT be disappointed.
Now, onto Ian!

How do you do the colorific hoodoo voodoo that you do?
May I ask how you all are doing your colors?
I've tried water color / art markers - they bled too much; tried color pencils - too muted versus the yellow card stock. Tried water colors with varied success, though seems I have to really layer up goopy thick paint to get enough opacity to overcome the yellow.
Most of you all seem to easily surmount the yellow and get some sharp details in your colors. What do you use? Is it guasch paint? acryllic?
And yes, sorry, this is a huge gaping hole in my fine arts background, I don't know nearly enough about illustrative color work or techniques. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated!
Thanks!

PS - apologies if you saw this post on the other Moly groups I'm in, trying to get ample coverage from all the amazingly talented folks I've been fortunate enough to crew up with!

Albina's secret garden
Here is my contribution to the secret garden books of Albina. I must say it was a difficult one for me; drawing for romantic subjects is not really my thing. But of course that is the challeging thing about Moly_x: you are forced to react on totally different subjects than what you're used to!
The hidden world idea reminded me of the story of Jonas and the whale, I can't think of a more secret world...

Status and update
Out of curiosity I tried to figure out where the books are at present.
This is based on the messages in this blog, which was not easy to figure out. So if I got something wrong, please notify me.
The book travel along the horizontal line from one to the other.
I was glad to see that everyone is still involved.

Scott adds to Sudjino's Moly
You mentioned a miracle transforming the physical structure of the world. Here are some spicebush swallowtail caterpillers spelling out the word "miracle" as they crawl over a branch and some abstract leaves. The miracle of the butterfly is hanging below the branch, is actual size, and we grow and hatch these every year in our garden. They love parsley and dill.

Thalia's moly: Imagine
At last, here is my contribution to Thalia's Moly. Her theme was "dreams" so I choose to refer to one of the biggest dreamers of all time: John Lennon. I made a short trip to New York City 2 weeks ago, and we visited Strawberry Fields. It's a part of the Central park, near the place where Lennon was shot in 1980. There is a memorial in the pavement referring to the song that in my opinion represents his dreams the best: Imagine. Imagination is the start of every dream of course.
I made some sketches during the trip: you can find them on my blog
http://renefijten.blogspot.com/ , or on Flickr. I also wrote some posts on Urban Sketchers. http://www.urbansketchers.com/

Anastasiya's Moly gains a Cosmic Dog
So here we go! Using the quote which Anastasiya put in her moly, I decided to send my dog into outer space....or at least his likeness. I believe that my dog flying into outer space with a brilliant cape would be suprising :-P heehee. I had to work her pink dots into my composition as they were too pretty to leave alone! I meant to paint the dog white, but forgot and the moly is on its way to Ian already. Oh well :-)

Progress in Ellen's Moly
Got away to Whistler for the weekend with the Missus and our 90 pound mutt; found a great spot to draw and nurse a pint. I pretty much stuck to Ellen's initial theme, since it has several elements I rather enjoy doodling. Hope y'all like it!
Next up, adding some color...

And here we go...
Hope I didn't add to much anatomy!

Just Curious
I am very curious how everything is proceeding with the books. Maybe a time for an update?
I send out my book 2 months ago to Anastasiya, and have not recieved one yet (like Thalia explained, something went wrong with sending it by post).
How are you all doing?

albina's walk
I went for a walk is the theme of this moly…and so I went for a walk down the memory lane. Some of my fondest memories are those of the walks with my little brother through the grove of the Larch Trees in the autumn. Larch is distinguished among Firs by its deciduous foliage. Those trees are really a sight to remember if you catch them just as all the needles turn brilliant yellow, and some of them begin to fall, covering the ground. It is truly magical – yellow needles covering the forest floor, yellow branches overhead, and tall majestic trunks rising like black columns. Larch trees in our neck of the woods (where I was growing up) were of Northern Asia variety (Larix sibirica), sometimes considered a distinct species.

René: the travelling moleskine
Well, here is my entry for the Moly_x_58, travelling moleskine, obviously because that's what it is.
I still feel enthralled by the idea that this small book is ready for a trip around the world.
It would be nice if you would put in something which you consider to be local. Not like the tourist stuff, but a scene or theme or person you think is telling. Like your street. Your breakfast table. Your idea of christmas. Your local store. Your favorite box of cereals. Your fascination about "fine art" a.k.a. tree women. Whatever.
Here I show the (small) town I live in, Hoensbroek. We have a fine medieval castle on one side of the town. On the other side we have castle of Amstenrade, 18th century. In between the road I live in: the "Patersweg".
BTW: I forgot to leave space for a sign off space, feel free to put your name somewhere with your entry.
I will be sending this off soon to Anastasiya, looking forward to your books!

Ellen's book - Tree woman
Hey everybody! I've got an entry done on my book & will send it off once I've done something for a sign in page.
At first, I thought that nothing could be cooler than having a theme for the book. Then after I mulled it over, I thought that leaving the design up to each artist was even better. Boths ideas sound good to me, so for my first moly, I am going theme-less. Everyone involved in this project is so talented & I can't wait to see how this book evolves with your ideas :-)
So, the concept of the tree woman came to me from a friend a few years ago. The idea intrigued me & I have sketched various versions of a tree woman but have not put her into a work until now. Perhaps she was just waiting for me to find Moly X.....I dunno.

"The Secret Garden"
OK, here it is! Theme for my book is “The Secret Garden”, it just sort of happened – I was doodling and flowers started sprouting…
What do you grow in your Secret Garden? Who lives there? Who do you bring there for a walk or a stay? Is it a water garden? Under-the-sea garden? Moon garden? Ice garden? A jungle? What creatures inhabit it? Is it dark in there or is it filled with light? Would it be dangerous to walk through your garden or not so much?
I can’t wait to send this off, so this garden will grow… I can’t wait to see everyone’s vision shape it as my moly makes a journey from person to person. I have to finish a front piece for a sign up page, and then it is off to Thalia!

Scott's First Entry (Scoach)
I picked a theme for my notebook, "I went for a walk." My first entry is about a bird that flew by. I hope all of you can have fun adding to the story by saying what happened when you went for a walk, or you could continue by pretending that you are me and walking further.
Let me know when you all are ready to mail out your Molys, and do you want to do addresses here or on Flickr? Thanks and happy new year everyone.
